What is Accreditation?

Earning him a reputation as among the best cosmetic dentists Charleston has to offer, Dr. John F. Rink has achieved Accredited status in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). He is the FIRST in Charleston, SC to join just under 450 dental professionals in the world who have earned the prestigious designation. Dr. Rink reached this status through a dedication to continuing education and careful adherence to clinical protocol.

Through the AACD’s advanced credentialing program for dentists and dental laboratory technicians, an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has completed extensive advanced training and education in cosmetic dentistry. AACD members who wish to become Accredited must undergo a three-part process consisting of a written examination, submission of clinical cases for evaluation and an oral examination.

Each candidate must also attend a series of workshops as part of the program. An Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has successfully passed a rigorous Accreditation Board Examination of their work and cases. An Accredited Member is a dentist who has demonstrated a very high level of clinical excellence and ability in cosmetic dentistry.

What Is Dr. Rink’s Background and Education?

For 40 years, cosmetic dentist Dr. John Rink has been creating beautiful smiles and providing exceptional care to patients from Charleston, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. After earning both his undergraduate and his dental degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Rink went on to complete a fellowship in implant dentistry from the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine.

In keeping with his commitment to continuing dental education, Dr. John Rink regularly updates his skills through professional courses and programs designed for cosmetic dentists. He has completed three different programs of study at Baylor College of Dentistry: Bite Disorder and Cosmetic Treatment (1999), Advanced Restorative Esthetics, Level III (1998), and Contemporary Esthetic Diagnosis and Treatment (1997).

He is also a 1992 graduate of the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education and has participated in weeklong scientific sessions offered annually by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (as Charleston's first accredited dentist) every year since 1999. These scientific sessions stand out as a premier educational forum for those interested in updating their skills and procedures, and they have allowed Dr. Rink to be a top-tier Charleston dentist while keeping his practice at the forefront of dental innovation.

Since January 2006, Dr. Rink has been on staff at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Dental School, sharing his knowledge and experience in the area of high tech dentistry, such as CAD/CAM fabrication of dental crowns, veneers, and onlays with senior dental students. Through Dr. Rink’s teaching, the students have an opportunity to experience the examination, diagnosis, and application of some of dentistry’s most exciting technology being applied in a private setting.

As a proud Supporter of the LAMB Institute in Honduras, Dr. Rink has spent time in Honduras and Haiti providing dental care for those in need. This philanthropic activity allows him to use his skill to make the world a better place—one smile at a time.

I enjoy teaching the students because it gives me the opportunity to give back to my profession in a way that will inspire and educate the soon to graduate dentist in the possibilities of modern dentistry.
